Project Crescer started on 1 November 2011 for 40 children and teenagers, aged 10 – 17 years old who attend the state run schools nearby in Santa Teresa neighborhood. The project helps some of the most disadvantaged teenagers in Brazil. Our goal is to complement and expand upon the education that they are receiving at school, so that they are given every opportunity to fulfill their potential.
The children and teenagers currently attend workshops in English, IT, music, swimming and aerobics, educational support in maths and Portuguese as well as Citizenship and incoming generating skills. They are provided with breakfast on arrival, a snack at 10 a.m. and lunch at midday before they go to school.
At the moment the project runs twice a week from 10 to 4:30pm and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., totaling up to 21 hours per week. To make the project possible, we are very pleased to have received initial support for the project from Chevron and Wilson sons who donated 10 computers. The music classes are using 12 guitars donated by Giannini Guitars. We remain, however, entirely dependent on the generosity of our supporters to continue and develop the project, so please tell as many people as you can about our work!
